Born on November 12, 1976, in Waxahachie, Texas, Campbell began singing gospel in his local church from an early age. His talent caught the attention of jazz musician Bobbi Humphrey, who invited him to audition in 1988. Impressed by his vocals, Warner Bros. Records signed Campbell to a record deal.
