Thomas Roberts is a renowned American television journalist, best known for his seven-year stint as the anchor of MSNBC Live, a daytime news platform of NBC News, on weekends from 5-7 pm ET. Roberts was born on October 5, 1972, in Towson, Maryland, to a Roman Catholic family. He attended Catholic schools in his hometown, graduating from Calvert Hall College High School. Later, he pursued a degree in communication with a minor in journalism from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College), graduating in 1994.
Roberts began his journalistic career as a reporter for a small cable station in Westminster, Maryland. He then moved to San Diego, California, where he worked as a writer and field producer for NBC affiliate KNSD. This was followed by stints as a general-assignment reporter for ABC affiliate KLKNTV in Lincoln, Nebraska, and as a nightly news anchor and investigative reporter for Fox affiliate WFTX-TV in Fort Myers, Florida.
One of his notable career milestones was when he became the co-anchor of an afternoon newscast and investigative and consumer correspondent for WAVY-TV, an NBC affiliate in Portsmouth, Virginia, serving the Hampton Roads area.
In December 2001, Roberts joined CNN, a cable news channel, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a weekday anchor on CNN Headline News, co-anchoring alongside Judy Fortin, Sophia Choi, and Kathleen Kennedy. During his time at CNN, he co-anchored the channel's coverage of the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disaster and the Iraq War.
