Tim Alexander, also credited as Herb Alexander, is the acclaimed drummer behind the iconic rock band Primus, known for his distinctive polyrhythmic playing style and versatility in navigating the band's eclectic soundscapes.
Alexander joined Primus in 1988, replacing Jay Lane, and stayed with the band until 1996. During his initial stint, he played on some of Primus' most popular albums, including Frizzle Fry (1990), Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991), Pork Soda (1993), and Tales from the Punchbowl (1995).
After leaving Primus, Alexander went on to form his own group, Laundry, which released two albums on Les Claypool's label Prawn Song Records. He also collaborated with Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan on several projects, including the bands Puscifer and A Perfect Circle.
In 2013, Alexander rejoined Primus, only to face health challenges in the following years. On July 18, 2014, he suffered a heart attack and underwent open-heart surgery. He had another heart attack in 2016, but has since continued to perform and record with Primus.
