Flores' playing career spanned nine seasons in the American Football League (AFL), primarily with the Oakland Raiders. During this time, he made history as the first Mexican starting quarterback in professional football. His impressive skills on the field led to his selection as a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, where he won Super Bowl IV in 1970.
After hanging up his cleats, Flores transitioned to coaching, becoming an assistant coach for the Raiders. In 1979, he took the reins as head coach, leading the team to two more Super Bowl victories (XV and XVIII) in 1980 and 1983, respectively. This made him the first minority head coach to win a Super Bowl, as well as the only head coach to win a Super Bowl with the same team in two different cities (Oakland and Los Angeles).
