Born on February 5, 1986, in Derventa, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, SFR Yugoslavia, Ćorluka's family moved to Zagreb in 1992 due to the Bosnian War. His parents, Jozo and Ana, hail from Modran, a village near Derventa. Growing up, Ćorluka began playing football in Dinamo Zagreb's youth teams at the age of eight, where he impressed scouts and eventually made his professional debut in 2003.
After a brief loan spell at Inter Zaprešić, Ćorluka returned to Dinamo Zagreb in 2005 and established himself as a key player, helping the club win three consecutive Croatian First League titles from 2005-2006.
