When his father passed away in 1933, DeDomenico, along with his brothers, took the reins of the business, which they renamed Golden Grain Macaroni Company. It was during this period that they invented Rice-A-Roni in 1958, a dried rice mixture that would go on to become a staple in American kitchens.
In 1964, DeDomenico acquired the prestigious San Francisco Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, which he built into a world-renowned chocolatier. Under his leadership, Ghirardelli became synonymous with high-quality chocolate and exceptional customer experience.
In 1986, DeDomenico sold both Golden Grain Macaroni Company and Ghirardelli Chocolate Company to Quaker Oats Company for $300 million. The following year, he joined forces with Jack Hussey and Dr. Lee Block to purchase the right of way to an 1864 Southern Pacific rail line in Napa Valley, California. This marked the beginning of the Napa Valley Wine Train, a luxury tourism venture that would revolutionize the region's tourism industry.
