Son of Eddie Van Halen, bassist for Van Halen, and founder of Mammoth WVH, known for carrying on his father's legacy and creating his own music.
Wolfgang Van Halen is an American musician best known for being the bassist of the iconic rock band Van Halen from 2007 to 2020, as well as the son of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen and actress Valerie Bertinelli. With his impressive instrumental skills and powerful voice, Wolfgang has established himself as a talented musician in his own right, even beyond his iconic family connections.
Wolfgang's musical journey began at a young age, watching his father rehearse and even trying to play his uncle Alex's drum kit. He started playing drums at nine, with his uncle Alex providing a few lessons, and received his first drum set as a gift from his father on his tenth birthday. He later moved on to guitar, bass, and even keyboards, possessing an impressive ability to learn by ear.
In 2006, Eddie Van Halen announced that Wolfgang would replace Michael Anthony as Van Halen's bassist. Wolfgang toured with the band in 2007 and performed alongside his father until the band's disbandment in 2020 following Eddie's passing. During this period, he also made guest appearances with the heavy metal band Tremonti from 2012 to 2016.
After Van Halen's disbandment, Wolfgang shifted his focus to his solo project, Mammoth WVH. As the sole instrumentalist and vocalist, he released his debut album, Mammoth WVH, in 2021, which received critical acclaim. In 2023, he released his second album, Mammoth II, further solidifying his position as a talented solo artist.
Wolfgang Van Halen has not only carried on his father's legacy but has also forged his own path in the music industry. With his impressive instrumental skills, powerful voice, and dedication to his craft, he has earned his place as a talented musician in his own right.
