Yakkun Sakurazuka, born Yasuo Sait, was a Japanese comedian, singer, and voice actor who made a significant impact in the entertainment industry through his unique characters, catchy music, and impressive vocal range. Known for his energetic performances and bold style, Sakurazuka was a beloved figure in Japanese pop culture.
Born on September 24, 1976, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, Sakurazuka grew up in a family of three, with a younger brother named Masashi. He graduated from Nihon University's College of Art, where he developed his passion for the performing arts.
As a teenager, Sakurazuka was an active member of the Johnny's junior unit, a prestigious talent agency that produced many successful Japanese idols. He formed the comedy duo Abare Nunchaku with fellow comedian Kosuke Takeuchi in 1999, which disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2006.
Sakurazuka's breakthrough came when he created the character Sukeban Kyoko, a delinquent schoolgirl always seen carrying a shinai bamboo sword. He debuted as Sukeban on the TV show Enta no kamisama in 2006 and later appeared on Quiz Millionaire in 2007, showcasing his comedic talent and entertaining millions of viewers.
In 2006, Sakurazuka released his debut single, Geki Maji Mukatsuku, marking the beginning of his music career. He went on to release seven albums, featuring a unique blend of pop, rock, and comedy. His band, Bijomen Z, was a novelty act where all members dressed as women, adding to the fun and quirky nature of his music.
Sakurazuka also ventured into voice acting, starring in popular anime series such as Detective Conan and Inazuma Eleven, sometimes using the stage name Hiromi Ueda. In addition to his on-screen work, he published his first book, Cleavage, in 2008, showcasing his wit and humor in written form.
In 2011, Sakurazuka was involved in a controversy surrounding an alleged rape incident, which he denied. A settlement was later reached between him and the plaintiff. Tragically, Sakurazuka's life was cut short in a traffic accident on October 5, 2013, at the age of 37.
