As a skilled goal-scorer and leader, Parise is best known for captaining the New Jersey Devils to the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals, where they ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Kings.
Born on July 28, 1984, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Zach Parise came from a rich ice hockey heritage. His father, Jean-Paul Parise, was a professional ice hockey player who played for Team Canada in the 1972 Summit Series and later for the Minnesota North Stars in the NHL. He then spent two seasons at the University of North Dakota, earning two nominations for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the top college ice hockey player in America. The New Jersey Devils drafted him 17th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, and he turned professional after his sophomore season, spending a year with the Albany River Rats in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Parise joined the Devils for the 2005-06 season and went on to play for the Minnesota Wild, New York Islanders, and Colorado Avalanche in his illustrious NHL career.
In the 2008-09 season, Parise ranked third in the league in goals scored with 45, behind Jeff Carter (46) and Alexander Ovechkin (56), and fifth in points with 94.
As a leader, Parise served as an alternate captain for the United States at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, where he scored the tying goal late in the gold medal game against Canada, sending it to overtime.
