Russian Premier Pyotr Stolypin assassinated at Kiev Opera House
Russian Premier Pyotr Stolypin's night out at the Kiev Opera House turned deadly when a young lawyer, Dmitry Bogrov, stepped out of the shadows and fired a fatal shot. The evening of September 14, 1911, was meant to be a celebration of Russian culture, with Tsar Nicholas II in attendance, enjoying a performance of Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tale of Tsar Saltan. But Bogrov, who was also an Okhrana agent, had other plans. His motives remain unclear, but the consequences were devastating: Stolypin's assassination sent shockwaves through the Russian government, marking a turning point in the country's turbulent history.
