Adrienne Warren was born on May 6, 1987, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to two high school coaches. She began her performance career in church and attended the Governor's School for the Arts. Warren graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in 2009. Before her Broadway debut, she performed with groups such as The Dream Engine and the TransSiberian Orchestra, and was a vocalist for the nonprofit MagicThe State Of The Art.
In addition to her stage career, Warren has appeared in several television series, including Blue Bloods, Orange Is the New Black, and Black Box. In 2020, she was cast in her first television leading role as activist Mamie Till-Mobley in the ABC limited series Women of the Movement.
