Kaigorodov's professional career began in 2001 with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Russian Super League (RSL), where he played for five seasons. His impressive performances soon caught the attention of NHL scouts, and on August 24, 2006, he signed a two-year contract with the Ottawa Senators.
Although Kaigorodov's NHL debut was highly anticipated, he failed to impress, playing only six games before being demoted to the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL). He refused to report and returned to Russia, where he was subsequently suspended by the Senators. In January 2007, his NHL rights were traded to the Phoenix Coyotes for Mike Comrie.
Kaigorodov returned to Metallurg Magnitogorsk and became an integral part of the team. In the 2015-2016 season, he signed a one-year contract with Barys Astana, but his struggles continued, and he was traded to HC Dynamo Moscow. After being released from his contract, Kaigorodov made another return to his hometown club, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, agreeing to terms for the remainder of the campaign.
