He played in the 1992 Quebec International PeeWee Hockey Tournament with the Druzhba78 squad, a team from Kharkiv, Ukraine. Under the guidance of Ukrainian coach Ivan Pravilov, Zyuzin honed his skills and was eventually drafted 2nd overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
