A Mexican-American guitarist and songwriter, best known for his work with the rock band Quiet Riot, penning hits like "Cum On Feel the Noize" and "Bang Your Head (Metal Health)".
Carlos Cavazo is a name synonymous with the iconic heavy metal band Quiet Riot, and for good reason. As the guitarist for the band during their commercial peak in the 1980s, Cavazo's virtuosic playing and songwriting skills helped shape the sound of one of the most influential metal bands of all time.
Born on July 8, 1957, in Atlanta, Georgia, to a Mexican father and an American mother, Cavazo's musical journey began at a young age. He formed his first band, Speed of Light, with his older brother Tony in 1973 in Anaheim Hills, California. The band would eventually evolve into Snow, which gained a loyal following on the Los Angeles club circuit in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
In 1982, Cavazo replaced Randy Rhoads in the reformed Quiet Riot, a move that would cement his status as a metal guitar legend. With Cavazo's guitar work and songwriting skills, Quiet Riot released a string of hit albums, including Metal Health, Condition Critical, and QR III. The band's music was a perfect blend of heavy metal and hard rock, with Cavazo's soaring guitar solos and riffs propelling the band to stardom.
After leaving Quiet Riot in the early 2000s, Cavazo went on to form the supergroup 3 Legged Dogg with Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain, Chas West, and Brian Young. The band released one album, Frozen Summer, in 2006. Cavazo has also played with Ratt, replacing John Corabi in 2008, and has been a member of King Kobra since 2021. In 2023, he joined Hurricane, further solidifying his reputation as a guitar virtuoso.
Carlos Cavazo's impact on the world of heavy metal and hard rock cannot be overstated. His innovative guitar playing and songwriting skills have influenced a generation of metal musicians, and his contributions to Quiet Riot's success are still celebrated to this day. As a testament to his enduring legacy, Cavazo continues to perform and record music to this day, solidifying his place as one of the greatest metal guitarists of all time.
