Born on April 2, 1980, in Compostela, Nayarit, Mexico, Salcido began his football journey with Guadalajara's youth system. He made his professional debut with the club in 2001 and went on to play five half-seasons, registering two goals in 105 matches. During his time with Guadalajara, Salcido was a 2005 and 2006 Copa Libertadores Semifinalist and a Runner-Up in Primera División.
In 2004, Salcido made his first national team appearance at the age of 24. He went on to represent Mexico in three World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014) and three Gold Cups (2005, 2007, 2011). In 2010, Salcido joined Fulham, where he spent a season before returning to Mexico with Tigres UANL. In 2014, he returned to his boyhood club, Guadalajara, where he won the league title in 2017.
