NASCAR driver with over 500 Cup Series starts, known for his consistent mid-pack finishes and occasional top-10 results.
Known for his diverse racing portfolio, spanning across various formats, including IndyCar, NASCAR, SCORE International, and Stadium Super Trucks, Casey Mears has solidified his reputation as a talented and adaptable driver. With a racing career spanning over three decades, Mears has left an indelible mark on the world of motorsports.
Mears' fascination with racing began at a young age, following in the footsteps of his father, Roger Mears, and uncle, four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Rick Mears. He started racing in gokarts in 1991, eventually moving to the SuperLites OffRoad Series in 1992, where he secured several top-three finishes.
In 1994, Mears transitioned to sprint cars, finishing third in the Jim Russell USAC Triple Crown Championship, with a win at Mesa Marin Raceway. The following year, he clinched the USAC series championship. In 1996, Mears made his Dayton Indy Lights debut at the Cleveland Grand Prix, finishing eighth, and went on to compete full-time in the Indy Lights championship the following year.
In 1999, Mears finished second in the Indy Lights series, narrowly missing the championship title by 14 points. However, he made history by becoming only the fourth driver in Indy Lights series history to complete every lap in a single season.
In 2000, Mears tested Indy Cars for multiple teams, eventually landing a chance to drive a third entry for Team Rahal at California Speedway. He qualified 15th and led 10 laps, securing a career-best fourth finish in his CART Series debut.
After a brief stint in the IRL, Mears made the switch to NASCAR in 2001, competing in the Cup Series, Nationwide Series, and Camping World Truck Series. Over the course of 15 seasons in the Cup Series, Mears notched several top-10 finishes, including a win at the Coca-Cola 600 in 2007.
Beyond his racing accomplishments, Mears has served as a NASCAR analyst for Fox Sports 1, providing expert commentary and insights to viewers. He has also competed in the Stadium Super Trucks series, founded by Robby Gordon, and participated in the SCORE International off-road racing series.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mears has demonstrated his adaptability, skill, and dedication to the sport of racing. As a member of the Mears racing family, he has carried on the legacy of his father and uncle, solidifying his own place in the annals of motorsports history.
Mears' diverse racing experience has earned him the respect of fans and peers alike, cementing his status as one of the most versatile and accomplished drivers of his generation.
