His work has captivated audiences worldwide, earning him an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for Bunny (1998) and a nomination for Best Animated Feature for Ice Age.
Wedge was born on March 20, 1957, in Binghamton, New York. Growing up in Watertown, New York, he developed a passion for animation at the age of 12, inspired by a TV special on cutout animation. This sparked a lifelong fascination with creating animated wonders.
Wedge attended Fayetteville-Manlius High School, graduating in 1975. He then pursued a BFA in Film from State University of New York at Purchase, graduating in 1981. He further honed his skills with an MA in computer graphics and art education from Ohio State University.
Wedge's early career saw him working as a principal animator on Disney's Tron (1982) and animating for The Brave Little Toaster. He also taught animation at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he met his future film directing partner, Carlos Saldanha.
In 1987, Wedge co-founded Blue Sky Studios, which became a premier computer animation studio. As its Vice President, he played a pivotal role in producing and directing numerous animated features.
