Born on October 14, 1945, in the Netherlands, Jippes began his journey in the world of comics in the late 1960s. His early work was published in the Dutch comics magazine Pep, where he gained national recognition with his successful comics album, Bernard Voorzichtig Twee Voor Thee.
In the mid-1970s, Jippes started working for the Dutch Donald Duck magazine, where his unique interpretation of Disney characters caught the attention of the Disney Studios in Burbank, California. This marked the beginning of his long and fruitful association with the Disney company. Jippes was subsequently hired to work on various Disney projects, including comic strips, merchandising, and even animation.

In 2018, Fantagraphics Books dedicated a volume to Daan Jippes and Freddy Milton in the Disney Masters book series, titled Donald Duck: The Great Survival Test. This recognition cemented Jippes' position as a master of Disney comics. Since 2021, the Carl Barks scripted Junior Woodchuck stories that Jippes finished have been reprinted, further solidifying his legacy.
