During his time at Shamrock Rovers, Mooney showcased his talent, scoring in every round as Rovers won the U17 All Ireland title against Kingdom Boys in 2002. He made his first-team debut on 6 April 2004, coming on as a substitute against Longford Town, and scored his first goal on 24 June 2004, against Dublin City.

Rise to Prominence

Mooney's impressive display at Shamrock Rovers led to his move to Longford Town in 2005, where he made his debut on 6 August 2005, in a 1-0 win over Bohemians. It was during the 2007 League of Ireland Premier Division season that Mooney truly made his mark, scoring an impressive 19 goals and becoming the top scorer in the league.

His exceptional form during that season led to Longford Town reaching the final of the FAI Cup, although they ultimately lost to Cork City. Mooney's outstanding performance earned him a nomination for the PFAI Player of the Year award, as well as the FAI Player of the Year and Player of the Month awards.

Later Career and Recognition

Mooney's success in the 2007 season attracted attention from Football League Championship sides Crystal Palace and Colchester United, as well as Premier League side Fulham. He eventually moved to Cork City, where he continued to make a name for himself in Irish football.
