In 1967, Stratos joined the Italian beat band I Ribelli, and in 1972, he co-founded Area, a pioneering progressive rock band that blended jazz, rock, and avant-garde elements. With Area, Stratos recorded numerous albums and performed at various festivals in Italy, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Netherlands, Cuba, and the United States. He also collaborated with prominent artists, including Mogol, Lucio Battisti, Gianni Sassi, and John Cage, among others.

He demonstrated an extraordinary ability to reach 7,000 Hz and perform diplophony, triplophony, and quadrophony.
