Devan Dubnyk, born on May 4, 1986, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender who made a name for himself in the National Hockey League (NHL) with his impressive skills and strong performances. With over 14 years of experience in the league, Dubnyk is known for his stints with the Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, Arizona Coyotes, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, and Colorado Avalanche.
Dubnyk hails from Regina, Saskatchewan, and began his junior career with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Between 2001 and 2006, he played in 192 games for the Blazers, compiling an impressive record of 83-87-14, 2.70 goals against average (GAA), .911 save percentage, and 15 shutouts. His exceptional performance earned him the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Scholastic Player of the Year award in 2004.
Dubnyk was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round, 14th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He began his professional career in 2006 with the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL, where he set club records with a 24-11-7 record, 2.56 GAA, and .921 save percentage. He was selected as an ECHL All-Star for the 2006-07 season.
From 2007 to 2014, Dubnyk played for the Oilers, serving primarily as a backup goalie. During this period, he also played for the Springfield Falcons, the Oilers' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. In 2010, he was called up by the Oilers after Nikolai Khabibulin underwent season-ending back surgery, and he went on to play 62 games that season.
In 2014, Dubnyk was traded to the Nashville Predators, and later to the Arizona Coyotes in 2015. He found his footing with the Minnesota Wild in 2015, where he played for four seasons and enjoyed some of the most successful periods of his NHL career. Dubnyk later played for the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche before announcing his retirement in 2020.
