Halligan's journey with Blood, Sweat & Tears began with their debut album, Child Is Father to the Man, where he showcased his trombone-playing prowess. However, after Al Kooper's departure, Halligan seamlessly transitioned to keyboards and introduced his flute-playing talents to the band. This adaptability earned him a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Performance for Variations on a Theme By Erik Satie from their album Blood, Sweat & Tears.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Halligan ventured into the world of film scoring, composing and arranging music for a range of movies, including Go Tell the Spartans (1978), Cheaper to Keep Her (1981), Fear City (1984), and the Chuck Norris films A Force of One (1979) and The Octagon (1980). His work on these projects showcased his ability to craft music that perfectly complemented the narrative.
Halligan's impressive career was marked by numerous awards and accolades. In addition to his Grammy Award, he earned a master's degree in music theory and composition from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. He also had the honor of conducting his original works at the iconic Carnegie Hall.

He developed an autobiographical one-man show, Musical Being, which premiered in 2011 and 2012, and later became Love, Sweat & Fears in 2013.
