Konstantopoulos began his professional career with Kalamata in 1996, after playing amateur football with Iraklis Ampelokipi. He made 12 appearances for the club over six years, with a brief spell at Egaleo yielding three further appearances between 2001 and 2002.
In 2003, he moved to Portuguese side Farense, where he honed his skills before joining Hartlepool United in October of the same year. It was at Hartlepool that Konstantopoulos truly made a name for himself, making 117 league appearances for the club over four seasons.
In 2007, Konstantopoulos opted to switch to Coventry City, where he struggled to hold down a first-team place. This led to loan spells with Nottingham Forest, Swansea City (twice), and Cardiff City between 2008 and 2009. Despite this, he made 31 league appearances for Coventry before being released in 2010.
He returned to Greece, spending a successful season with Kerkyra before switching to AEK Athens for the next two seasons. Following AEK's relegation, he was released at the end of his contract, and joined Middlesbrough in August 2013.
Konstantopoulos has represented Greece at both the under-21 and senior levels. He made nine appearances for the Greek under-21 side and earned his only senior cap in 2011.
