Born on November 20, 1970, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Keezer was exposed to music from an early age. His mother, Mary Ann Graham, was a professional French horn player, and his father, Ronald Willard Keezer, was a composer-percussionist and member of the music faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Keezer's musical aptitude was nurtured through his education at Berklee College of Music, where he attended for a year before joining Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
Keezer's professional career began in 1989 when he joined Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, becoming the last pianist to join the band. He composed and arranged original music for the group, with which he remained until Blakey's death in 1990. Keezer's debut album as a leader, Waiting in the Wings, was released in 1989 on the Sunnyside label.
In the 1990s, Keezer joined the Art Farmer Quartet, serving as musical director and arranger from 1994 to 1995. He then became a member of bassist Ray Brown's trio, touring the world and performing at major festivals and jazz clubs. Throughout his career, Keezer has worked with esteemed musicians, including David Sanborn, Chris Botti, Joe Locke, and Christian McBride.
