Early Life and Education

Born on April 16, 1951, in Timioara, Romania, Cochinescu grew up surrounded by the rich cultural heritage of his homeland. He pursued his passion for music at the National University for Music in Bucharest, where he studied violin, piano, and composition between 1970 and 1974. Later, in 2005, he was granted a Doctor of Music, Aesthetics degree from the same university, with a dissertation on the Venetian baroque music of Antonio Vivaldi.

Literary Pursuits and the Fight Against Censorship

During the 1980s, Cochinescu actively participated in literary circles in Bucharest, including the Junimea literary circle led by Ovidiu S. Crohmlniceanu and the Mondays literary circle headed by professor Nicolae Manolescu. Many of his colleagues and he fought against the Communist censorship that stifled creativity and free expression. His short stories were published in various magazines, including Arge, SLAST, and Tribuna, although the censors removed some of his narrations from his 1986 volume of short stories, published by Cartea Romaneasca.

A New Dimension: Art Photography

As an art photographer, Cochinescu participated in numerous international competitions between 1982 and 1986, winning several awards in Romania, France, Brazil, and Poland. His essays, articles, and translations were published in the magazine Fotografia. He is credited with creating The Photoplan and Photospacial Forms, which were showcased in galleries such as AAF in Bucharest and Sala Dalles in Bucharest and Poland.
