A talented Welsh artist who writes and performs folk-infused music, while also acting in films and television shows. He's known for his soulful voice and poignant songwriting.
James Fox, born James Richard Mullett, is a renowned Welsh pop singer, songwriter, pianist, and guitarist who made his mark on the global music scene by representing the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004. With his soulful voice and captivating stage presence, Fox has left an indelible imprint on the world of music.
Born on April 6, 1976, in Cardiff, Wales, Fox grew up in the former mining community of Gilfach, Bargoed, in the Rhymney Valley. His musician father, Richard, played a significant role in nurturing Fox's love for music, with the young boy taking piano lessons from the tender age of six. Fox later taught himself to play the guitar, drums, harmonica, and mandolin, showcasing his innate talent and dedication to his craft.
Fox's passion for music was only rivalled by his love for Cardiff City F.C., also known as "The Bluebirds." He regularly participated in charity matches, playing for the team's charity teams and featuring in the legendary matches that marked the team's transition from Ninian Park to Cardiff City Stadium. In 2008, Fox wrote and recorded the FA Cup Final song "Bluebirds Flying High," further solidifying his connection with the team.
Fox's professional music career began at the age of 15, when he toured South Wales' working men's clubs circuit with his elder brother Dean. He later worked for 12 years as a singer on cruise ships and in pubs and clubs, performing under both his real name and the stage name Nick James. In 2000, he formed the boy band Force 5 with friend Kevin Simm, mainly performing on Blackpool's Golden Mile before the band disbanded when Simm joined Liberty X.
In 2003, Fox took part in the BBC's popular talent show Fame Academy, where he adopted the stage name James Fox and finished fifth. He subsequently appeared on the albums Fame Academy Bee Gees Special and Fame Academy: The Finalists, and duetted on the co-written track "In Your Smile" with winner Alistair Griffin.
The following year, Fox represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the heartfelt ballad "Hold Onto Our Love." Although he finished 16th out of 24 finalists with 29 points, Fox's charming performance and soaring vocals left a lasting impression on the international stage.
James Fox's remarkable journey serves as a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and passion for music. With his unique voice and captivating stage presence, Fox has made a significant contribution to the world of pop music, inspiring a generation of aspiring musicians.
