Born Janice Wendell Bethany on May 14, 1938, in Columbus, Georgia, Jan grew up in a family deeply rooted in faith. Her father, Reverend Edgar W. Bethany, was an Assemblies of God pastor and the founding president of Southeastern University in Florida. This spiritual upbringing laid the foundation for Jan's future endeavors.

While attending Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri, Jan met her future husband, Paul F. Crouch. They married in 1957 and had two sons, Paul Jr. and Matthew, who would later become high-ranking officials and program hosts on TBN. The Birth of TBN

In 1973, Jan and Paul co-founded Trinity Broadcasting Network, along with Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. Although the Bakkers left in 1975, the Crouches persevered, driven by their mission to spread the Gospel through television. In 1974, TBN purchased its first TV station, KLXATV channel 40, now KTBNTV in Southern California, and began distribution through cable systems in 1978.

She was also the director of programming for TBN's affiliated networks, including the Smile of a Child children's channel, JUCE TV youth network, The Church Channel, and others.
