A talented multi-hyphenate behind cult classics like Attack the Block and The Kid Who Would Be King, crafting imaginative, genre-bending stories for the big screen.
Joe Cornish, born on December 20, 1968, is an English comedian, filmmaker, and writer, best known for his work alongside Adam Buxton as the comedy duo Adam and Joe. Their irreverent and offbeat humor has made them cult favorites in the UK and beyond.
The duo's breakout show, The Adam and Joe Show, aired from 1996 to 2001, showcasing their unique brand of pop culture parody and witty banter. The show's signature segments, featuring hit films recreated with stuffed toys and British TV shows parodied with Star Wars action figures, quickly gained a devoted following.
Following the end of the show, Cornish continued to work in British television and radio as a presenter, writer, and director, both with and without Buxton. He went on to write and present the BBC Radio 4 film program Back Row between 2002 and 2003, as well as front the topical discussion show This Week Only, alongside Nick Frost and Lauren Laverne.
In 2011, Cornish released his directorial debut, Attack the Block, a sci-fi horror comedy that garnered critical acclaim and commercial success. The film's success paved the way for Cornish to co-write The Adventures of Tintin with Steven Moffat and Edgar Wright, as well as Ant-Man, alongside Wright, Adam McKay, and Paul Rudd.
Cornish has also made a name for himself through his behind-the-scenes documentaries and video diaries, including following the making of Little Britain series 2 and a video diary of his brief cameo as a zombie in Shaun of the Dead.
In 2007, he and Buxton began presenting Adam and Joe, a radio show on BBC Radio 6 Music, which took a brief hiatus in 2010 while Cornish directed Attack the Block. A new series began in 2011.
Cornish was educated at the independent Westminster School in central London, where he became friends with both Adam Buxton and Louis Theroux. At age 18, he went on to study at the Bournemouth Film School.
Joe Cornish's unique blend of humor, creativity, and storytelling has left an indelible mark on the world of comedy and filmmaking. With a career spanning multiple mediums and genres, Cornish continues to inspire and entertain audiences around the world.
