From 1984 to 1990, she worked as a tape op and sound engineer at Yellow Two and Strawberry Studios in Stockport, where she was part of the group WhatNoise, playing guitar, synthesizer, and programming computers. The group released the album "Fat" and the 12-inch vinyl EP "Vein", and toured extensively throughout the UK.
