Born on September 20, 1914, in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, More was the only son of Charles Gilbert More, a Royal Naval Air Service pilot, and Edith Winifred Watkins. He was educated at Victoria College, Jersey, and later trained as a civil engineer, following in the family's tradition.
However, More's passion for the performing arts led him to abandon his engineering career and pursue a life in show business. He worked as a stagehand at the Windmill Theatre, where he was discovered by Vivian Van Damm, a business associate of his father.
Throughout his illustrious career, More received several awards and nominations, including a BAFTA Award for Best British Actor for his performance in The Admirable Crichton (1957). He was also appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1970 for his services to drama.
