The cricketing gene ran deep in the family, with one of his first cousins being the renowned actor Russell Crowe.
Crowe made his first-class debut for Auckland at the tender age of 17, and his Test debut for New Zealand at 19. His exceptional talent and dedication earned him a place among the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1985, solidifying his reputation as one of the best young batsmen in the world.
In 1990, Crowe was appointed captain of the New Zealand national cricket team, a position he held until 1993. During his tenure, he led the team to several victories, including a semifinal finish at the 1992 World Cup, where he was named the player of the tournament.
