Born on June 23, 1970, Deschamps was born with congenital deformities of all four limbs, missing both his left arm and right leg, and having only two fingers on his right hand. Despite these challenges, he did not let his handicap hold him back. He started playing the drums at the age of 11 and later learned to play the bass guitar and sing.
Before pursuing music full-time, Deschamps worked as a graphic designer for Bell company from 1989 to 1995. During this time, he was the drummer for the band Any Way and later formed his own group, Deep Freeze.
Deschamps' big break came in 1996 when he was named best vocalist in the L'Empire des futures stars competition. As a result, he was invited to join Offenbach on a reunion tour as the replacement for the late Gerry Boulet. The tour consisted of 50 shows, and Deschamps' powerful voice and energetic performances quickly won over fans.
In 2000, Deschamps released his solo debut album, Comme je suis, which sold 60,000 copies in Quebec and spawned three hit singles. The album was nominated for three Félix Awards, recognizing Deschamps as one of the best new artists in Quebec.
