Bachelet was born in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, France, to Maurice and Alberte Bachelet. He spent part of his childhood in Calais, which later inspired his hit song "Les Corons". During his youth, he learned to play the piano, but his fascination with Elvis Presley led him to learn the electric guitar.
In the 1970s, Bachelet achieved international success under the name Resonance with the hit "OK Chicago". His other notable songs include "Elle est D'ailleurs" (1980), "Crismoi" (1982), "Marionnettiste" (1985), "En l'an 2001" (1985), and "Vingt ans" (1987).
In addition to his singing career, Bachelet was a prolific film score composer, having worked on films such as "Emmanuelle" (1974), "Story of O" (1975), "Black and White in Color" (1976), "Coup de tête" (1979), and "Les Bronzés font du ski" (1979). His score for "Emmanuelle" was particularly notable, with Robert Fripp winning an out-of-court settlement over the use of music based on King Crimson's "Larks' Tongues in Aspic".
Bachelet was married three times and had two sons, Yannick and Quentin. He passed away on February 15, 2005, at the age of 60, due to lung cancer.
