Born Sheila Frances ONions on October 10, 1928, in Birmingham, England, Walsh grew up in a family of modest means. Her father, Wilfred ONions, worked as a civil servant, and her mother, Margaret Moran ONions, was a homemaker. During World War II, the family relocated to Southport, Lancashire, where Walsh met her future husband, Desmond Walsh.

Walsh's writing journey began when she joined the Southport Writers Circle in 1971. Her involvement with the group not only helped her hone her writing skills but also paved the way for her to become the life president of the organization in 1986.

Rise to Fame and Notable Works

Walsh's debut novel, The Golden Songbird, published in 1975, won the Netta Muskett award for new writers from the Romantic Novelists Association. This accolade marked the beginning of her successful career as a romance novelist. In 1984, her novel A Highly Respectable Marriage earned her the Elizabeth Goudge award.

Some of Walsh's notable works include Madalena (1976), The Sergeant Major's Daughter (1977), and The Rose Domino (1981), which showcased her talent for crafting engaging stories that captivated her readers.
