Born on 25 July 1988 in Preston, Lancashire, Kemp began her skating journey at the tender age of six. She teamed up with her future husband David King in 2003, and the pair began competing internationally in the 2004-2005 season.
Kemp and King were initially coached by Dawn Spendlove and Stephen Pickavance in Blackburn. Later, they trained under Mariusz Siudek and Dorota Siudek in Toru, Poland. In the 2011-2012 season, they were coached by Jeremy Barrett in Florida, and subsequently joined Lyndon Johnston.
Stacey Kemp became engaged to David King in 2010 and married him in April 2016. She attended Leyland St Mary's Catholic High School and was raised in Clayton-le-Woods.
