Zalewski's journey to the top began with his high school hockey days at NYS Section III Division 2, New Hartford Spartans, where he was named NYS Player of the Year in 2002. He then played college hockey for four years at Clarkson University, scoring an impressive 108 points in 151 games.
During his professional career, Zalewski played for several teams, including the Worcester Sharks, San Jose Sharks, New Jersey Devils, Albany Devils, Lukko, Ilves, and Straubing Tigers. His NHL debut came on October 12, 2009, when he played for the San Jose Sharks against the Phoenix Coyotes.
