Bickers grew up in Fulham, London, in a family of gamblers and card players, where he learned valuable life skills from a young age. However, his life took a drastic turn when his parents split up when he was just 12 years old, an event that would later influence his personal vulnerability and reactions to people and band politics.
In 1986, Bickers joined The House of Love, playing a pivotal role as lead guitarist and creative foil to singer and songwriter Guy Chadwick.
