A talented saxophonist who played with iconic bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and toured with numerous notable artists. Known for his energetic live performances and soulful sound.
Tommy Marth, the American saxophone player, is best known for his electrifying performances and recordings with the indie-rock sensation, The Killers. His soulful melodies and jazz-infused rhythms added a distinct layer of depth to the band's second album, Sams Town, and its subsequent tours.
Born on November 23, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Tommy Marth grew up surrounded by music. His father, Thomas Christian Marth Sr., was a stringed-instrument enthusiast who introduced Tommy to the drums at the tender age of four. However, it wasn't until Tommy discovered a Stan Getz cassette tape that he fell in love with the saxophone.
With his siblings, Ryan and Melissa, Tommy formed an unbreakable bond, often referred to as "The Three Musketeers." This closeness extended to their shared passion for music, with his siblings eventually forming the Las Vegas indie band, The Big Friendly Corporation.
Tommy's musical journey began at Chaparral High School, where he met future Killers' bassist Mark Stoermer in jazz band. During this time, he also moonlighted as a fashion model for renowned brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Jaguar, appearing in music videos for Sting's "Desert Rose" and Passion Fruit's "Sun Fun Baby."
After high school, Tommy attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he earned a bachelor's degree in film. However, his true calling remained music.
In 2006, Tommy reunited with Mark Stoermer in the studio to record tracks for The Killers' sophomore album, Sams Town. His soulful saxophone riffs added a new dimension to the band's sound, earning him a spot on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Tragically, Tommy Marth's life was cut short on April 23, 2012, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable performances and recordings. His contribution to The Killers' music will forever be remembered as a testament to his talent and dedication.
"Tommy was more than just a sax player, he was a brother, a friend, and a true original. He brought a sense of joy and humor to everything he did, and his spirit will always be a part of us." - The Killers
