Bettin's first film role was in the 1980 film Somewhere in Time. However, it was his voice acting debut as Dr. David Q. Dawson in The Great Mouse Detective (1986) that catapulted him to fame. This role marked the beginning of a successful voice acting career, with notable credits including Shrek, Gargoyles, and Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series.
Bettin married Hildy Pender in 1950, and the couple shared a loving relationship until her passing on August 16, 2007, at the age of 82. Bettin passed away on January 7, 2021, at the age of 97, leaving behind a legacy of beloved characters and memorable performances. He was buried at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park on March 3, 2021.
