Born on January 24, 1915, in Brno, Austro-Hungarian Empire (now Czech Republic), Kaprlov was surrounded by music from a young age. Her father, Vclav Kaprl, was a composer, and her mother, Vtzslava Kaprlov ne Viktorie Uhlov, was a singer. This musical upbringing paved the way for her future successes.
Kaprlov's formal education in music began at the Brno Conservatory, where she studied composition with Vilm Petrelka and conducting with Zdenk Chalabala from 1930 to 1935. She further honed her skills with Vtzslav Novk (1935-1937) and Vclav Talich (1935-1936) in Prague, and later with Bohuslav Martin and Charles Munch (1937-1939) in Paris.
In 1937, Kaprlov conducted the Czech Philharmonic, marking a significant milestone in her career. A year later, she conducted the BBC Orchestra in her composition Military Sinfonietta, solidifying her reputation as a talented composer and conductor.
Her music was admired by renowned figures such as Rafael Kubelk, who premiered her orchestral song Waving Farewell, and Rudolf Firkun, who interpreted her piano music, including her famous Dubnov preludia (April Preludes).
Despite her tragic death in 1940, Kaprlov's contribution to classical music was recognized and appreciated. In 1946, the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Arts awarded her membership in memoriam, a rare honor bestowed on only 10 women out of 648 members at the time.
