Willem Korsten, a former Dutch professional footballer, is best known for his electrifying performances as a left winger in the Premier League, particularly during his stint with Tottenham Hotspur. Korsten began his professional career in the Netherlands, playing for N.E.C. and SBV Vitesse before catching the attention of Leeds United, who signed him on loan in 1999. However, Tottenham Hotspur swooped in and snatched Korsten with a bid of approximately £1.5 million. Korsten's most memorable performance came on the final day of the 2000-01 season, when he scored two spectacular goals in a 3-1 win over champions Manchester United at White Hart Lane. This match would ultimately prove to be his last as a professional footballer, as persistent hip injuries forced him to retire at the age of 26 in October 2001.
Following his retirement, Korsten returned to his former club, N.E.C., as a coach for its football academy. He briefly came out of retirement to play for SCV 58 in the 2002-03 campaign, but injuries forced him to quit the team early in the season.
In May 2011, Korsten made a second comeback as a player for Topklasse side Achilles 29. He won the district cup east and scored the only goal in the final of the KNVB Amateur Cup 2011. Korsten retired once again and joined the Achilles staff for the 2011-12 campaign as their assistant manager. He later resigned and joined N.E.C. as an assistant manager for the 2012-13 season.
Although Korsten's playing career was cut short due to injuries, his impact on English football remains significant.
