William DuVall is a renowned American musician, best known as the current co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the iconic rock band Alice in Chains. Since joining the band in 2006, he has been an integral part of their success, sharing vocal duties with guitarist-vocalist Jerry Cantrell.
William Bradley DuVall was born on September 6, 1967, in Washington, D.C. His maternal grandmother was of Dutch and North African descent. At the age of 14, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his mother and stepfather, where he developed a passion for music.
DuVall's music career began in the early 1980s Atlanta hardcore punk scene. His first band was Awareness Void of Chaos, followed by the formation of the controversial hardcore punk band Neon Christ in 1983. As a founding member, he contributed guitars and lyrics to the band's albums.
In 2006, DuVall replaced the band's original lead singer, Layne Staley, who passed away in 2002. With Alice in Chains, he has recorded three albums: Black Gives Way to Blue (2009), The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here (2013), and Rainier Fog (2018).
DuVall's contributions to the band have earned him three Grammy Award nominations. Additionally, he won an ASCAP Pop Music Award for co-writing the song "I Know" for Dionne Farris in 1996.
In addition to his work with Alice in Chains, DuVall is the co-founder, lead singer, guitarist, and lyricist for the band Comes with the Fall. He has also been the lead vocalist for the supergroup Giraffe Tongue Orchestra since 2016.
