A Serbian-Hungarian singer-songwriter and guitarist, blending folk and rock elements to create a unique sound, known for his poetic lyrics and soothing melodies.
Zorn Sztevanovity is a Serbian-Hungarian guitarist, singer, and composer who has been making waves in the Hungarian music scene since the 1960s. He is best known for his hit song "Apm hitte" and his work with the iconic band Metro, which was part of the "beat trinity" of Hungary alongside Ills and Omega.
Zorn Sztevanovity was born on March 4, 1942, in Belgrade, Kingdom of Yugoslavia (now Serbia). He moved to Hungary in 1948 with his parents, who were on a diplomatic mission. In 1960, he founded an amateur band called Zenith with his brother Duan and their friends, which later changed its name to Metro in 1961.
Metro quickly gained popularity in Hungary, and Zorn's talent was recognized when he won a talent show in 1963 with a Gershwin song. This success led him to discontinue his studies at Budapest University of Technology, where he was studying to be an electronic engineer, and pursue music full-time.
After Metro disbanded in 1972, Zorn began a solo career. He played bass in the band Taurus XT and spent some years abroad. In 1976, he started working with Gbor Presser, pianist-composer of the Locomotiv GT. His first solo album, released in 1977, became one of the most successful albums published in Hungary ever.
Zorn's work was recognized with the Franz Liszt Prize in 1982, given by the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He presented a program on Radio Calypso in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and in 1993, he presented an unplugged concert in the Budapest Sports Hall.
Zorn Sztevanovity's music is characterized by emotional profusion, poetic composition, and often a dry sense of humor. His work has had a significant impact on Hungarian music and pop culture. He is considered one of the most successful and influential musicians in Hungary, and his music continues to be celebrated by fans of all ages.
Zorn Sztevanovity's legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians and music lovers in Hungary and beyond.
