Udovt Dor is a renowned Slovak economist and politician, best known for serving as the Prime Minister of Slovakia from May to October 2023, and as the Minister of the Interior from July to October 2023. As the first Slovak Prime Minister from the ethnic Hungarian minority in Slovakia, Dor's leadership marked a significant milestone in the country's political history.
Udovt Dor was born on July 2, 1976, in the village of Vek Kosihy, near Komrno, Slovakia, into an ethnically Hungarian family. He completed his secondary studies at the Hungarian-language Selye Jnos Gymnasium in his hometown. Dor then attended Comenius University in Bratislava, graduating in 1999 with a master's degree in mathematics and management. In addition to his native Hungarian, he speaks Slovak and English fluently.
After completing his studies, Dor began his career as an analyst for eskoslovensk obchodn banka in April 1999, leaving his position in 2001 to work for the Slovak Rating Agency. He then became the chief economist of the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic in 2003. Dor's expertise in finance led to his appointment as a board member of the National Bank of Slovakia in January 2006, where he advised then-Prime Minister Iveta Radičová and then-Finance Minister Ivan Miklo from 2010 to 2012.
In September 2015, Dor was appointed vice-chairman of the European Union's Network of Independent Fiscal Institutions, serving until October 2017. He then became a member of the supervisory board of Slovensk sporitea and a member of the Council for Budget Responsibility until February 2018. In February 2018, Dor became Vice-Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia, following a nomination by Most-Híd.
In 2023, Dor led the liberal Progressive Slovakia's list for the European Parliament election. His experience in finance and politics culminated in his appointment as Prime Minister of Slovakia, marking a significant achievement for the ethnic Hungarian minority in the country.
