Tragedy strikes during Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia (Mina, Saudi Arabia) 2015

Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims had traveled to Mina, Saudi Arabia, for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, one of the largest gatherings of people in the world. Suddenly, chaos erupted as a stampede broke out, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. At least 1,100 pilgrims lost their lives, and another 934 were wounded, making it one of the deadliest incidents in Hajj history. The stampede occurred near the holy site of Jamarat Bridge, where pilgrims were performing a ritual called the "stoning of the devil." Authorities scrambled to respond to the disaster, airlifting survivors to hospitals and setting up emergency medical tents.
