Born on September 20, 1936, in Rhiwbina, Cardiff, Wales, Davies attended Whitchurch Grammar School in Cardiff and later graduated from University College, London, with a BA in English in 1957.
Davies began his career as a teacher at St Clement Danes Grammar School in London, where he taught from 1958 to 1961. He then moved to Woodberry Down Comprehensive School in Hackney, London, where he taught until 1963. During this period, he started writing for radio, contributing to the BBC Home Services Monday Night at Home strand in 1960, alongside notable writers like Harold Pinter and Ivor Cutler.
In recognition of his exceptional contribution to television drama, Davies was made a BAFTA Fellow in 2002. This prestigious honor is a testament to his impressive body of work, which has captivated audiences worldwide.
