Born on April 6, 1664, at Vuorentaka Manor in Halikko, Finland, Horn was the son of Gustaf Horn af Kanckas and Anna Helena von Gertten. After completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Turku, he entered the Royal Swedish Army and served in various military campaigns in the Netherlands, Hungary, and Flanders.
In 1705, Horn was appointed as a privy councillor, and in 1706, he was elevated to the rank of count. Following the death of his mother, Hedvig Sophia of Sweden, in 1708, Horn was entrusted with the care of Charles Frederick, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp, who was under the guardianship of his grandmother Hedwig Eleonora of Holstein-Gottorp.
During his tenure, Horn demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, and his diplomatic efforts helped to broker peace agreements and strengthen Sweden's relationships with other European nations. He served as president of the privy council chancellery twice, from 1710 to 1719 and again from 1720 to 1738.
Horn's remarkable career and achievements have inspired generations of Swedish politicians and diplomats, and his legacy continues to be celebrated to this day. Despite controversies surrounding his methods, Horn's contributions to Sweden's history and development cannot be overstated.
