Leibinger's career took off when he became a development engineer at Cincinnati Milling Machines (now Milacron) in Cincinnati in 1958. He returned to Trumpf in 1961 and was appointed head of the engineering division. Leibinger served as technical director from 1966, managing director and partner from 1978, and chairman of the supervisory board of the Trumpf Group until the end of 2012.
