Born on March 7, 1943, in Barnet, Hertfordshire, White grew up in a musical family. His father, Harold White, a bus inspector for London Transport, was an avid music lover who played the double bass in dance bands, performing the music of Glenn Miller and other swing bands. Chris's earliest musical training came from his father, who played guitar alongside Chris on the ukulele.
White attended St Albans County Grammar School, Hertfordshire, where he met Colin Blunstone, later meeting Rod Argent, Paul Atkinson, and Hugh Grundy, who were at St. Albans School. This group of talented musicians would eventually form The Zombies, with White replacing the band's initial bass guitarist, Paul Arnold.
The Zombies' debut album, The Zombies, released in January 1965, featured two tracks written by White. The album was later renamed Begin Here for its UK release, which included three tracks penned by White. The band's appearances on American television, including their debut on Hullabaloo in January 1965, further solidified their growing popularity.
The Zombies' hit single "Tell Her No" in 1964 marked a significant milestone in their career, with the band continuing to record successfully throughout the 1960s. Although the group disbanded in December 1967, their music left an indelible mark on the rock scene.
