In 1949, Ppin won the prestigious Prix d'Europe, a Quebec government study grant, which enabled him to pursue advanced studies in Paris from 1949 to 1955. During this period, he worked with esteemed composers Arthur Honegger and André Jolivet, and analysis with Olivier Messiaen, alongside notable contemporaries Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Serge Garant.
